Burgers

Burgers are a lot healthier than they used to be! A typical burger is typically regarded as a sandwich, containing one or more unseasoned and cut raw meat, most commonly beef, laid in a slice of thin, pre-toasted bread with the option of special sauce or dressing. The burger can also be grill, grilled, pan fried or even flame broiled. It is also a source of whole grain breads, which contain beneficial vitamins and minerals while also being very high in protein.

Hamburgers have been around since the mid-1800s, and although they have always been served on top of hot dog buns (called "bunburgers"), their origins really begin in Germany. There, they were served as early as May on St. Patrick's Day. Back then, the only way to cook a burger was by frying it in a pan over a campfire. People would build fires in the streets and place the meat on top of the hot coals. When the meat was done cooking, it was then dipped in a pungent sauce made from beef fat and vinegar, and then the bun was baked in the same fire.

Hamburgers in America have been modified over the years to include both the bun and the cheese that are a standard ingredient in all American Burgers. Most of the changes have happened to the Hamburgers we enjoy today. Traditionally, the Hamburgers would contain mostly just the patty itself, and nothing else. Today's Hamburgers come with everything - including the cheese and the onions. But most importantly for health reasons, they contain no oil, butter or salt and are generally served without the bun.
